School Boards Role

Basically my school district has the elements of the 5 components in place , serving a district where more than seventy percent of the students are on free and reduced lunch.  My high school had a grant where each student in grades 9, 10 and 11 were assigned were given a laptop to use for the school year and return and the end of the year.
However this program has been changed to giving the teachers in the core area a classroom set to use, and the reason for this is that it was too costly to maintain and service when the students had them.

As for my district we have just elected new members to the board, will the just go along with decisions or will they have a greater impact that I am not sure of.
The best role for them to take is make a decision that is in the best interest of the students that is increase students' performance and achievement. School Boards should ensure that technology is integrated into instruction used by all students and staff as an integral part of school improvement and student success.

  1. Short and to the point. I too believe that with the clout that school boards have; they should really take an active role in ensuring the integration of technology in the classroom - provide the necessary resources and the rest will simply fall into place. Thank you for sharing.

  2. The video presented raised some interesting points. This is definitely just the beginning as it relates to the possibilities of technology.

It also spoke about the shift from merely presenting information in the classroom to access, being interactive, being able to create, and the sharing information by using technology.

The ability to enhance the teaching and learning environment by using web tools is numerous. Thanks indeed for sharing.

  3. I agree with your statement that "school board should ensure that technology is integrated into instruction...", our objective is to make them concious about it, and show them our achievements.

  4. The integration of teachnology is what all boards should strive for for all the schools in their district. Let's hope that the new board will see that technology in classrooms is the future and will work towards making this happen.

  5. I do hope the new school board will jump on board with technology at the fore-front so that more can be done for the students sake.

  6. With the election of a new board, you have raised the right questions. Time will tell. Hopefully your school leadership will help guide that journey. As the video notes, it is just the beginning...but it is also moving fast, and it would be a shame to let our current students suffer while we "study" the issue.
