In my school wegsites like youtube, facebook and mysoace along with other mp3 streaming networks are blocked for ever and ever. I kind of agree with this initiative, however, I think teachers' accounts should have the capability to access at least some of the mp3 streaming websites and youtube due to the pedagogical potential they represent. I also believe children must be educated in good cultural values like respect, tolerance and mercy. The school can help but in reality students are pretty much what they are taught at home.
I enjoyed listening. I particularly liked the mode of presentation. I agree that most of these sites are blocked by school districts. Therefore, students do not have access to them on school campuses. But how does the school hold them liable for what they do to staff or other students? Some of the students do them just for fun, BUT it danmages the character of the person. As one administrator said. These students should be taught a lesson. These need to some consequences. they need to pay the penalty for their actions.
Shornet I totally agree with you,but unless it causes a disruption in the school or as i said before spills over at school then the school deals with it. Otherwise, the person who is targeted has to deal with it on their own , take legal actions. In South Carolina slander and libel is punishable upon conviction. I guess that would have to be the route if there is no disruption at the school. Why shoul someone have to to feel all that because kids are playing and their parents feel its their free speech right. As parents we want to protect our kids but to do the wrong things, is that right?
I agree when you said we have to train the kids with good values and moral. Something kids and parents need to know that it is not the person but the action what is being punished. Good presention very original.
Moral values are the key to raising children with the right value system. Although they have some protection through the 1st Amendment, they need to understand where the line is drawn. A difference in presentation Thank you
I liked that question that you asked, "what would make someone want to write deflamatory or derrogatory information about another person especially a teacher/administrator?" In my estimation it is a child that has been repremanded or punished by this adult. This child could also "feel" that this adult is picking on them even if this is not a reality. After years of living an orderly, ethical life your reputation is now ruined by a child with a low moral value system, hiding behind the First Amendment - Free speech Clause. I just think it is wrong no matter which way you look at it. They are children and they should act like children and be disciplined like children when they do something wrong.

Well just thought I would share, and I got this information today from the assistant principal who was out last week. there was actually a youtube video posted where the student defamed the principal, this was done outside of the school. Outcome; student was expelled and lost internet privilages
